Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp is born March 19 1848. Wyatt is one of six sons. (Newton, James, Virgil, Wyatt, Morgan and Warren). Nicholas Earp was his father and Virginia Ann Earp was his mother.

In 1876, Wyatt Earp moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where he was a deputy marshal. From 1876-1877. Earp was listed as a deputy marshal in the Dodge City newspapers as late as March 31, 1877.

It is in Dodge City where Wyatt solidifies his friendship with Bat Masterson, future Sheriff of Ford County, and a former dentist turned gambler and killer, John Henry "Doc" Holliday. Wyatt continued to build his reputation as a lawman in Dodge City and it is here that Wyatt slowly started to make a name for himself across the West as being a fearless and brave police officer.

Wyatt was involved in at least one known killing in Dodge City. Wyatt shot cowboy George Hoy, who would later die of gangrene from the wound, after the latter came riding into town and starting "shooting the place up". Some would claim that Hoy was attempting to kill Earp, but this has never been substantiated. During this time came the notorious Clay Allison incident. Allison was an infamous gunman, known as one of the most dangerous gun-slingers of his time. Earp claimed that Allison had been sent to Dodge to run him out of town since George Hoy was a friend of his.
